Background


Hon most recently was the pitching coach at Division I Texas Pan-America, in Edinburg, Texas.While there his club beat nationally ranked teams such as the University of Notre Dame and the University of New Orleans. His 2008 Recruiting class was ranked in the top 25 in the nation in Division I baseball.


Before Texas Pan-America University, Hon coached at Union College in Union, Ky., where he served as the graduate assistant coach for the Bulldogs during the 2007 campaign. During his stint at Union, the Bulldogs made their first NAIA World Series berth. Hon worked with the pitching staff along with holding responsibilities in strength and conditioning, fundraising, and recruiting.


Prior to joining the Union College baseball program, Hon served as an assistant coach at Newman University in Wichita, Kan. where he worked with the pitching staff and held the title of Recruiting Coordinator for the Jets. He also served as the Sports Information Director and Residence Life Assistant.


Hon brings prior success to the Tabor pitching staff as both of his former teams at Union College and Newman University were ranked among the nation's leaders in earned run average in their respective conferences.


The newly-named Tabor assistant baseball coach has also served as a head coach for the Newton Rebels and most recently the Valley Center Diamond Dawgs in the Kansas Walter Johnson League where the squad advanced to the National Baseball Congress World Series and finished in 5th place in 2009.


Hon began his pitching career at Southern Illinois University before he transferred to Newman University during his junior campaign and spent two seasons on the mound for the Jets. Hon was a two-time first team All-American and earned a pair of spots on the NCAC Conference first team. During his senior campaign with the Jets, Hon was selected as the National Pitcher of the Week after striking out a program record 16 batters in a row. Hon then turn his sites to professional baseball before career ending arm surgery lead him to coaching.


Hon graduated from Newman University with his bachelor's degree in business administration and earned his master's degree from Union College. Hon lives in Wichita with his wife Marcie and daughter Kate.
