Length of Time at Tabor: Since 2009
Athletic background:
I competed in cross country and track throughout high school and college, eventually specializing in the 800 meters and 1500 meters.
Academic background:
I attended Ventura College, a community college in Southern California, for two years before transferring to the University of Redlands, also in Calif. I graduated in '96 with a BA in History. I returned to UR as the Graduate Assistant for track and cross country and earned an MA in Education Counseling.
Family:
My wife Kimberly and I have been married for seven years. We have a one-year old son, Wilson, and are expecting our second child in January ‘09.
Coaching style:
I believe that you must not only enjoy what you are doing, but be willing to commit to a lot of hard work to achieve your potential and be successful as a distance runner. There is a time to have fun and a time to work hard. In my opinion, the two come together on race day.
What is special about athletics at Tabor?
I really like the idea that athletics are meant to be used as a mission field, helping students grow in their faith and relationship with Jesus. I am really looking forward to working with the athletes on the Cross Country and Track teams. I am excited to see what we can accomplish.
How do you integrate faith into your coaching?
I try to encourage self-confidence and reliance on God. He is bigger than our fears and He wants us to be strong and courageous, even when it comes to running.
