HILLSBORO, Kan. -
Tabor College men's soccer team gave-up a late goal in the final minutes of
regulation before falling to the University of Sioux Falls 2-1, in its season
and home opener Friday afternoon at Joel H. Wiens Stadium.
After a scoreless first half, despite chances by both teams,
Sioux Falls got on the board first as the Cougars goal at the 68 minute mark
gave them 1-0 lead.
The Bluejays, however, would strike back just three minutes
later as junior Robert Masson (Dalgety Bay, Scotland) knotted the game at 1-1,
off a beautifully played ball from freshman Aram Najar (Perris, Calif.).
Tied at one all heading into the final minutes of regulation
and down a man due to a red card, the Cougars broke the tie at the 88 minute
mark to take a 2-1 lead and hold on to secure the victory.
Freshman goalkeeper, Dalton Burkhard (Dodge City, Kan.), got
the start in goal and recorded two saves in his first collegiate match of his
career.
Tabor (0-1 overall) will travel to Fayette, Mo. to take on
Central Methodist University Friday Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.
