KCAC SPORTS.COMWICHITA, KS - KCAC Commissioner, Dr. Scott Crawford,
announced Jordan Crosson of Tabor College today as the 2009-2010 KCAC
Champion of Character Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Crosson, a
junior volleyball player at Tabor during the 2009-2010 school year, is
the first recipient of this new award established by the conference.
Crosson received her award at the 4th Annual KCAC Sport
Management Conference on Tuesday, August 10 in Salina on the campus of
Kansas Wesleyan University.
"Jordan was selected from an
outstanding pool of candidates. Her accomplishments have set her apart
and established the standard for years to come for all student-athletes
competing in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference," stated
Crawford.
Crosson, a native of Minneapolis, KS who is majoring in Secondary
Education and preparing to be a history teacher, is a dedicated
student. She has made the Bluejay Honor Roll every semester during her
college career - making the Dean's List with Honors or Highest Honors
every semester. She has been named KCAC Academic All-Conference in both
2008 and 2009. Crosson was also a NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete in
2009.
On the volleyball court, she received the KCAC 2007 Freshman of
the Year Award and was named Second Team All-Conference in 2008. She
is a three-year letter winner in volleyball and two-year letter winner
in basketball at Tabor.
Within her campus community, Crosson has served as a peer adviser and on the campus' student life committee.
Rusty Allen, Vice President for Athletics at Tabor College
commented, "Jordan has set the standard for character on our campus.
She works hard, has a selfless attitude, demonstrates respect to
everyone while competing both on the court and in the classroom with
all her energy."
He added, "Jordan reflects Christ to everyone she comes into
contact with. The Tabor athletic department and really our entire
campus is proud to celebrate this honor with her."
According to Dr. Karol Hunt, Assistant Athletic Director and Chair
of the KCAC Champions of Character Committee, "Jordan is a highly
respected leader on the Tabor campus, both in academics and athletics.
She is the ultimate team player for the volleyball program, putting
others ahead of herself. She lives a life where her words match her
actions."
The KCAC Champion of Character Student-Athlete of the Year Award
was developed by the KCAC Champions of Character Committee to recognize
signifcant contributions from a student-athlete who excels both in the
classroom, in her sport, and in her community.
Each KCAC institution has one representative on the
conference-level Champions of Character Committee. The committee
members voted on the award based on the pool of nominees. Each KCAC
institution is able to select one nominee from their institution to be
considered for the award. Representatives were not allowed to vote for
the nominee from their institution.

The NAIA Champions of Character program was designed to remind
athletes, coaches, and fans to act in relation to core values in all
aspects of life. The Champions of Character core values are:

Leadership.
