HILLSBORO, Kan. -
First Baptist Academy High School senior Makenzie King (Schertz, Texas) has
signed a letter of intent to compete in track and field and cross country next
season for Tabor College.
In track and field, King was a three time team captain and
10 time state champion, including three times in the 400 meter relay, and two
times in the 800 meter relay and 400 meters. She also won state titles in the
800 meters, the high jump, and the long jump.
During her career at First Baptist Academy she helped lead
the Eagles to four state track and field appearances including two state titles
and two runner-up finishes. King also qualified for the National Junior
Olympics in the heptathlon during her sophomore and junior seasons.
"Makenzie is an excellent track athlete and will be called
on to contribute immediately in the sprints and jumps," said Head Track and
Field Coach Dave Kroeker. "She is someone who will contribute to the
team individually and as part of several relays. She is also an excellent
student who will bring a lot to our team and to the campus as a whole."
In cross country King was a four-time First Team All-State
selection while serving as team captain during both her junior and senior
seasons.
Head Cross Country Coach Dan Swaney said "Makenzie will add
some needed depth to the team next fall and I think she has the potential to
improve upon what she was running in high school. I know she's excited to run
over the summer and I look forward to working with her this fall."
King has also excelled in the classroom as a two-time Academic
All-State selection in both track and field and cross country as well as a 2010
salutatorian.
