HILLSBORO, Kan. - Rio Hondo High School senior Melisa Elizabeth Cruz (Rio Hondo, Texas) has signed a letter of intent to play softball next season at Tabor College.
 

Cruz, a 5-2 shortstop, will be looked at to make an immediate impact both on the field and at the plate next season for the Bluejays.

 
During her career at Rio Hondo High School Cruz, earned Co-New Comer of the Year and Second Team All-Valley honors her freshman season, Second Team All-District honors her sophomore season, All-Honorable mention honors her junior season, and First Team All-District honors her senior season.
   
She also helped lead the Bobcats to the state playoffs with a district record of 9-3, and an overall record of 17-11, during her senior season of play.
   
Cruz has also excelled in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society, while finishing in the top 10 percent of her graduating class.
 

Melisa is the daughter of Andres and Lynda Cruz.
