Hillsboro, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference honored five Bluejay softball players for their efforts this season, as they were named to the All-KCAC Teams.

Junior Maggie Cornish (Roeland Park, Kan.) and freshman Roxanne Rodriguez (McAllen, Texas) received top honors as they were named First Team All-Conference.

Cornish led the Bluejays in batting average at .352, hits with 44, and runs scored with 23. She also finished second on the team in total bases with 60, doubles with eight, and tied for home runs with two, placing her in the top 20 in the KCAC in each of  categories.

Cornish also drove in 15 runs to go along with one triple and three stolen bases on the year.

"Maggie was our most consistent hitter throughout the season," said Head Softball Coach John Bassett. "She brought a tough mental and physical approach to our team that we sorely needed this season, and I'm very happy to be able to pencil her into our lineup next season."

Rodriguez led the Bluejays and the KCAC in opponents' batting average at .213, strikeouts with 180, and innings pitched with 197.1. She was also first on the team in wins with 12 (3rd in the KCAC) and ERA at 2.03 (7th in the KCAC.).

She also helped the Bluejays at the plate, batting .319 on the year with 37 hits, eight doubles, 16 RBI's and 16 runs scored.

"Roxanne was amazing for us this season," said Bassett. "Anytime she pitched we felt like we had a chance to win, and I think that's the highest compliment you can give to a pitcher."

Senior Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita, Kan.) was named Second Team All-Conference. Cohlmia batted .328 on the year with 40 hits, including four doubles and, three triples, to go along with five RBI's and 20 runs scored.

She also finished in the top 20 in the KCAC in hits, triples, and total bases with 50.

"Ashley is a remarkable talent," said Bassett. "Whether it's volleyball or softball, she has a natural ability to make things look easier than they really are."

Freshman Taylor Funk (Wichita, Kan.) was also named Second Team All-Conference as she batted .300 with 36 hits and 19 runs scored. She also led the Bluejays in doubles with nine, triples with four, home runs with three, slugging percentage at 517 and total bases with 62 in her first collegiate season of her career.

Her totals in doubles, triples, home runs, RBI's, slugging percentage, and total bases also ranked her in the top 12 in the KCAC in each category including second in the conference in triples.

"Taylor is only a freshman and yet she is gifted with amazing leadership ability," said Bassett. "I feel her leadership ability comes from her faith in Christ. She has a servant's attitude and a desire to see her teammates grow in Christ. Offensively, she was easily our most explosive hitter this year, while also doing a tremendous job catching and playing first base."

Senior Aubrey Whitehorn (Duncanville, Texas) batted .262 with 28 hits and 17 runs scored. She also totaled five doubles, two home runs, 39 total bases, and five stolen bases during her senior season for the Bluejays.

"If the ball was in the air and she could get to it, she caught it," said Bassett. "Aubrey's strength has always been her defense and it will be very difficult to replace her next season. Aubrey improved a lot offensively this year, raising her average over .160 points. She will be missed."
