HILLSBORO, Kan. - The Tabor College
Women's Track and Field Team placed second out of nine teams at the Kansas
Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Meet held Friday and Saturday on the
campus of Ottawa University, in Ottawa, Kan.
Senior
Tasia Johnson (Dallas, Texas) was also named KCAC Track and Field Most Valuable
Athlete of the Year given to the athlete who scores the most points at the KCAC
Conference Championship Track and Field Meet.
Johnson
won both the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.52 seconds and the long jump with
a distance of 5.69 meters while also running on the first place 4x100 and 4x400
meter relay teams that finished with times of 4:01.90 and 48.77 seconds
respectively. She also placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 11.31
meters and fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.08 seconds.
Senior
Kelli Kopper (Cimarron, Kan.) also had an outstanding meet winning the 400
meters with a time of 57.69 seconds
while placing third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.81 seconds. She
also was part of Tabor's champion 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams, as well as a member of the 4x800 meter relay team that placed fourth with a time of
10:02.13.
Fellow
senior Christina Addison (Valley Center, Kan.) placed second in the 10K setting
a new school record with a time of 40:12.80 while placing third in the 5K with
a time of 19:18.53. She was also a member of Tabor's fourth place 4x800 meter
relay team.
Tabor
also got strong performances out of senior Chelsea Malone (Ellinwood, Kan.) who
set a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 41.09 meters while
freshman Emily Post (Wray, Colo.) placed second in the in the triple jump with
a distance of 11.72 meters.
Tabor
College seniors Andrea Batista (Hagerman, N.M.) and Jessica Burden (Little Elm,
Texas) also gave the Lady Jays strong performances in their final KCAC
Conference Championship meet of their careers. Batista was also part of the
winning 4x400 meter relay team, while placing fourth in the 400 meters with a
time of 59.30 seconds, and sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.49. Burden
was part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team while placing third in the pole
vault with a height of 2.82 meters, fifth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time
of 15.98, and sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 13.05.
"We
had numerous personal records set by our women's team so that is always
gratifying to see the best performances of the year in the final meet," said
Head Track and Field Coach Dave Kroeker.
Johnson,
Kopper, Addison, Post, and Malone, each earned All-KCAC honors after placing in
the top three of an individual event at the KCAC Championship Meet.
Tabor
relay teams that were named All-Conference were the women's championship 4x100
meter relay team. Members of the team include Johnson, Kopper, Burden, and
sophomore Kayla Gershon (Littleton, Colo.). The women's championship 4x400
meter relay team. Members of the team include Johnson, Kopper, Batista, and
junior Tessa Siebert (Henderson, Neb.) The women's 4x800 meter relay team which
placed third also earned All-Conference honors. Members of the team include
Kopper, Addison, Siebert, and freshman Jordan Zielke (Wichita, Kan.).
Honorable
Mention All-Conference honors (4th through 6th place) were earned by Gershon,
Burden, Batista, Kopper, Johnson, Siebert, Post, senior ShaRae Wadel
(Greensburg, Kan.), junior Megan McCarty (Hillsboro, Kan.), sophomore Samantha
VanRanken (Medicine Lodge, Kan.), freshmen Erin Flaming (Denver, Colo.),
Destinee Cogburn (Walsh, Colo.), and Tynan Honn (Buhler, Kan.).
