HILLSBORO, Kan. - Who says youth is
such a bad thing? Not the Tabor College
Men's Tennis team which finished second in KCAC play despite a 10 man roster
made-up of eight freshmen and just two seniors.
The
youthful Bluejays ended KCAC play with a record of 5-2 after Tabor's season finale
5-4 victory over arch rival Bethel College on Saturday. Both the Bluejays and
the Threshers finished tied in conference standings, but it was Tabor's victory
that broke the tie-breaker.
Tabor's
two biggest victories against Bethel came from David Simmet (Mainz, Germany)
and Cory Simms (Wichita, Kan.) in number one doubles and Gabriel Valle (Brazil)
number two singles.
"We
got a couple huge wins at number one doubles and number two singles that made
the difference," said Head Men's Tennis Coach Michael Hagen. "What's even more
impressive are those spots all came from freshmen. I really feel that this is
something we can build on not only for this year but for future seasons to
come. We feel very fortunate to come out with a win and finish in second place
for the regular season."
Tabor will take on Bethel College in a rematch in the
first round of the KCAC Men's Conference Tennis Tournament Friday May 7, at the Riverside Tennis Center in Wichita, Kan.
