
HILLSBORO, Kan. - Heading into the
final regular season series of the season, the Tabor College Softball team
picked-up two huge wins, sweeping visiting Kansas Wesleyan University Wednesday
at the Hillsboro Sports Complex.
Tabor (7-7 Overall, 16-21 Overall) will close out regular season play at home against Bethany College in a double-header Saturday, April 24. Game one is set for 1 p.m. at the Hillsboro Sports Complex.
In game one on Wednesday, Tabor used a strong defensive performance and timely hitting to defeat Kansas Wesleyan University, 4-2.
The Bluejays scored twice in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Coyotes would cut the lead to one on an unearned run in the fourth inning, before Tabor responded with two more runs in the fifth inning to open-up a 4-1 lead, and take game one.
Senior Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita, Kan.) led the Bluejays offensive attack as she went 2-3 from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored, while freshman Jessika Guderyon (Houston, Texas) went 2-2 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Freshman Katlin Thompson (Laredo, Texas) got the start and the win for the Bluejays as she pitched seven innings, allowing just one earned run on two hits while striking out four.
In game two, Tabor turned the Coyotes mistakes into runs and the Bluejays needed just five innings to run-rule Kansas Wesleyan, 8-0.
After a scoreless first inning, Tabor recorded eight runs over the next three innings, including three runs apiece in the second and third innings, to secure the victory and the sweep. The Bluejays also capitalized on the Coyotes mistakes scoring five unearned runs for the game.
Tabor
was led offensively by junior Margaret Cornish (Roeland Park, Kan.) and
freshman Debbie Martinez (Pharr, Texas) as they both went 1-2 from the plate
with two RBI's and a run scored.
Freshman Roxanne Rodriguez (McAllen, Texas) got the start and the win as she allowed two hits while striking out three in a five inning shutout.
