Roxanne Rodriguez picked up two wins on the mound for the Bluejays

HILLSBORO, Kan. - The Tabor College Softball Team swept visiting McPherson College in a double-header behind the strength of two come-from-behind victories Thursday.


Tabor (2-4 KCAC, 10-14 Overall) will travel to Rogers State University in Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the Boarder Wars Tournament Friday and Saturday April 9-10, as the Bluejays look to build upon their four-game winning streak.


In game one on Saturday, Tabor fell behind early before coming from behind late to take the lead and the game from the Bulldogs, 7-3.


McPherson got on the board first with a run in each of the first two innings and tacked on another run in the fourth inning to take an early 3-0 lead. Tabor got on the board with a run in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 3-1, before exploding in the sixth inning, scoring six runs to take a 7-3 lead and the game.


Senior Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita, Kan.) paced the Bluejays attack as she went 3-3 from the plate with a run scored, while sophomore Janelle Medrano (Edcouch-elsa, Texas) and freshman Jessika Guderyon (Houston, Texas) each added a hit and two RBI's apiece.


Freshman Roxanne Rodriguez got the start and the win for the Bluejays as she pitched seven innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out 10.


In game two, McPherson jumped on Tabor early before the Bluejays rallied to take the lead and hold on for the 5-4 victory.


The Bulldogs used a two-run first inning to get on track and held the lead for much of the game. Tabor would tie the score up at two apiece in the fifth inning and took the lead with three runs in the sixth inning. Leading 5-2 heading into the seventh inning, McPherson would load the bases and score two in the inning to pull within one at 5-4. With a runner on third and two outs Rodriguez struck-out the final batter to secure the win and the sweep for the Bluejays.


Rodriquez led the Bluejays offensively as she went 2-4 from the plate with two runs scored. Guderyon and freshman Taylor Funk (Wichita, Kan.) also had big night's offensively for the Bluejays as they each chipped in with two RBI's apiece.
