HILLSBORO, Kan. - Tabor
College senior Tasia Johnson (Dallas, Texas) won three events
Saturday at the Enduro Classic at Friends University in Wichita, Kan., and
in the process qualified for the NAIA National Track and Field Championships.
Johnson qualified for nationals in the long
jump, placing first with a leap of 5.51 meters (18'1").
She also won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.50 seconds.
Johnson's third win came as a member of Tabor's 4 x 100
meter relay team which finished with a time of 49.73 seconds. Other members of
the team included seniors Kelli Kopper (Cimmaron, Kan.) and Jessica Burden
(Little Elm, Texas), along with freshman Kayla Gershon (Littleton, Colo.).
Other top performances were turned in by Kopper who finished
3rd in the 400 meters with a time of 59.89 seconds and Burden who finished 2nd
in the pole vault with a height of 2.59 meters. Freshman Erin Flaming (Denver,
Colo.) placed 2nd in the 300 meter steeplechase with a time of
13:05.07 minutes. Fellow freshman Emily Post (Wray, Colo.) finished 2nd
in the triple jump with a distance of 11.42 meters, while sophomore Samantha
VanRanken won the javelin with a throw of 40.40 meters.
The Tabor College Women's Track and Field team will travel
to Sterling, Kan. to compete at the ACCK Meet Saturday, April 10th, at
Sterling College.
