HILLSBORO, Kan. -
The Tabor College Softball Team earned its second sweep in a row and extended
its winning streak to four games on Friday, as the Bluejays swept Langston
University in a double-header in Langston, Okla.
In game one, Tabor scored five runs in the first six innings
before exploding for five more runs in the seventh inning en route to a 10-0
victory.
Senior Aubrey Whitehorn (Duncanville, Kan.) led the Bluejays
offense as she went 3-4 from the plate with an RBI and three runs scored, while
junior Roxanne Rodriguez (Edinburg, Texas) went 2-3 from the plate with two
RBI's and a run scored.
Tabor had 11 players record at least one hit in the game.
The Bluejays out-hit the Tigers 17-4.
Freshman Roxanne Rodriguez (McAllen, Texas) recorded her
third shut-out of the season in as many games. She pitched seven scoreless
innings allowing just four hits while striking out eight.
In game two, the Bluejays needed just five innings to
put away the Tigers by the score of 12-3 to complete the two-game sweep.
After falling behind, 2-0, after the first inning, Tabor
exploded for 12 runs in the next four innings, including a six run fifth
inning, as the Bluejays cruised to its fifth victory of the season.
Sophomore Amanda Howe (Adelanto, Calif.) paced the Bluejays
offense as she went 2-3 from the plate with an RBI and two runs scored, while
freshman Debra Martinez (Pharr, Texas) recorded a game-high three RBI's to go
along with two runs scored as she went 1-3 from the plate for the game.
Tabor got a strong pitching performance from freshman
Katelin Thompson (Laredo, Texas) as she pitched five innings, allowing just two
earned runs on seven hits, while striking out one.
Tabor (5-1 Overall) will begin conference play at home on
Tuesday March 16, when the Bluejays will take on Ottawa University in a
double-header with game one set for 4 p.m.
