HILLSBORO, Kan. -
The Tabor College Softball Team earned its first sweep of the season by defeating visiting
York College (York, Neb.) in both games of a double-header on Saturday
afternoon.
In game one, Tabor used a strong pitching performance and
timely hitting to shut-out York, 7-0. After a scoreless first three
innings by both teams, Tabor senior Audrey Whitehorn's (Duncanville,
Texas) double in the bottom of the fourth inning drove in the first run of
the game, giving the Bluejays a 1-0 lead.
The Bluejays offense would catch fire in the bottom of the
fifth as Tabor scored six times in the inning to build a commanding 7-0 lead en
route to the victory.
Freshman Roxanne Rodriguez (McAllen, Texas), who pitched a
no-hitter in her previous outing, gave the Bluejays another superb
pitching performance. She pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just three
hits while striking out 12.
Whitehorn led the Bluejays offense as she went 3-3 from the
plate with two RBI's, while Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita, Kan.) went 2-4 from the
plate with a run scored. Junior Roxanne Rodriguez (Edinburg, Texas) also had a
solid day offensively, as she went 2-3 from the plate with two RBI's and a run
scored.
In game two, after falling behind Tabor would respond with
runs in the fifth and the sixth to defeat York College, 5-2.
After both teams remained scoreless through the first four
innings York struck first with a two-run fifth inning to take the early lead.
But Tabor cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning with
a run of its own. The Bluejays added four runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning, and held on for the victory.
Cohlmia led the Bluejays offense as she went 1-3 from the
plate with an RBI, while freshman Rodriguez went 1-3 from the plate with two
runs scored.
Sophomore Rae'Shon Johnson (Adelanto, Calif.) and freshman
Katelin Thompson (Laredo, Texas) combined to pitch seven innings, allowing no
earned runs on seven hits while striking out three.
Tabor (3-1 Overall) will travel to McPherson, Kan. on
Wednesday, March 10, to take on Central Christian College in a
double-header, beginning at 1 p.m.
