HILLSBORO, Kan. - Tabor College senior
basketball player Stephanie Silvas (Dexter, N.M.) was honored this past week by
the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference as she earned the KCAC Champions of
Character Award.
The
award is given out weekly by the conference to student athletes who demonstrate
excellence in athletics, in the classroom, and in the communities in which they
live. Silvas,
a captain, four-year letter winner and two-year starter for the Lady Jays,
averaged 5.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per-game this season. She also had 36
steals.
Academically,
Silvas is pursuing a degree in physical education and is on pace to graduate
this spring.
"Stephanie
has been a four-year player in our basketball program," said Vice President of
Athletics Rusty Allen. "She has worked hard toward earning a degree and has
been a solid contributor on the basketball court. Stephanie is well-deserving
of an award that recognizes character."
Head
Women's Basketball Coach Shawn Winter added, "It has been a privilege watching
Stephanie grow during her time at Tabor. She has really come to embrace what
Tabor stands for and is very deserving of the Champion of Character award. She
has shown tremendous character as a basketball player, student in the
classroom, and in her personal life as well. Tabor College has been great for
Stephanie, and Stephanie has been great for Tabor College."
