HILLSBORO, Kan. - The 2010 Tabor College Softball season couldn't of gotten off to a better start as freshman Roxanne Rodriguez (McAllen, Texas) pitched a no-hitter in game one of the Bluejays season opener against Haskell Indian Nations University this past Friday in El Dorado, Kan. at Butler Community College.

Rodriguez pitched six shutout innings allowing no runs on no hits while striking out nine and walking just three batters as Tabor defeated Haskell 8-0, in game one of the double-header.

Tabor got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the second and added three runs each in the bottom of the fifth inning and sixth inning in route to its first victory of the season.

Junior Margaret Cornish (Roeland Park, Kan.) led the Bluejays offensively as she went 2-3 from the plate including her first home run of the season to go along with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita, Kan.) had a solid day from the plate as she went 2-4 with two RBI's and a run scored, while freshman Taylor Funk (Wichita, Kan.) went 2-2 from the plate with two RBI's.

In game two Haskell shut-down the Bluejays high powered offense as the Indians held on to defeat the Bluejays 2-1.

After a scoreless first two innings Haskell got on the board in the top of the third to take the early 1-0 lead. With their backs against the wall the Bluejays tied it up at one apiece in the top of the seventh only to see Haskell score the game winning run in the bottom half of the inning to escape with the narrow victory.

Cohlmia led the Bluejays offensively as she went 1-3 from the plate with a run scored, while freshman Jessika Guderyon (Houston, Texas) recorded Tabor's only RBI of the game.

Freshman Katelin Thompson (Laredo, Texas) got the start for the Bluejays and pitched seven innings allowing two runs on 10 hits while striking out five.

Tabor (1-1 Overall) will play host to York College (York, Neb.) in a double-header Saturday March 6, with game one set for 1:30 p.m.
