HILLSBORO,
Kan. - The 2010 Tabor College Softball
season couldn't of gotten off to a better start as freshman Roxanne Rodriguez (McAllen,
Texas) pitched a no-hitter in game one of the
Bluejays season opener against Haskell
Indian Nations
University this past Friday in El
Dorado, Kan. at Butler
Community College.
Rodriguez
pitched six shutout innings allowing no runs on no hits while striking out nine
and walking just three batters as Tabor defeated Haskell 8-0, in game one of
the double-header.
Tabor
got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the second and added
three runs each in the bottom of the fifth inning and sixth inning in route to
its first victory of the season.
Junior
Margaret Cornish (Roeland Park,
Kan.) led the Bluejays
offensively as she went 2-3 from the plate including her first home run of the
season to go along with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita,
Kan.) had a solid day from the plate as she
went 2-4 with two RBI's and a run scored, while freshman Taylor Funk (Wichita,
Kan.) went 2-2 from the plate
with two RBI's.
In
game two Haskell shut-down the Bluejays high powered offense as the Indians
held on to defeat the Bluejays 2-1.
After
a scoreless first two innings Haskell got on the board in the top of the third
to take the early 1-0 lead. With their backs against the wall the Bluejays tied
it up at one apiece in the top of the seventh only to see Haskell score the
game winning run in the bottom half of the inning to escape with the narrow
victory.
Cohlmia
led the Bluejays offensively as she went 1-3 from the plate with a run scored,
while freshman Jessika Guderyon (Houston,
Texas) recorded Tabor's only RBI
of the game.
Freshman
Katelin Thompson (Laredo,
Texas) got the start for the
Bluejays and pitched seven innings allowing two runs on 10 hits while striking
out five.
Tabor
(1-1 Overall) will play host to York College
(York, Neb.)
in a double-header Saturday March 6, with game one set for 1:30 p.m.
