Damon Dechant Unanimous First Team All-KCAC

HILLSBORO, Kan. - Tabor College junior Damon Dechant has been named a unanimous First Team All-KCAC selection by the basketball coaches of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

A dominant post player who led the Bluejays in scoring with 15.1 points per game, Dechant (Kit Carson, Colo.) was one of three Tabor College players named to All-KCAC Teams.

Freshman point guard Lawson Kingsley (Sedgwick, Kan.) was a unanimous All-KCAC Freshman Team selection by the coaches given to the top five freshmen in the conference. Fellow freshman post player Ryan Chippeaux (Wichita, Kan.) was also a unanimous All-KCAC Freshmen Team selection by the coaches.

Dechant, who also led the Bluejays in rebounding at 7.3 rebounds per-game, was second on the team in field goal percentage at 50.7 percent, ranking him fourth and second in the conference respectively. He also recorded 21 blocks on the year, placing him eighth in the conference, while finishing the season with 35 steals, good for second on the team.

"Damon had a fantastic season and is very deserving being picked as a unanimous All-KCAC selection," said Head Men's Basketball Coach Micah Ratzlaff. "Damon was our go-to guy and everyone knew that we would try to get him the ball as much as possible. He carried a heavy load for a young team with a great attitude. I believe he is the best 4-5 spot in our conference, and his stats back that up.Congratulations to Damon for this award."

Kingsley averaged 8.7 point per-game for the Bluejays while shooting 36.5 percent from behind the arc, ranking him third in the conference and second on the team. At only 5-feet 8-inches tall, he also ranked second in rebounding for Bluejay guards at 2.3 rebounds per-game, while finishing the year with 21 steals, and shooting 78.4 percent from the free throw line.

"Lawson did a great job running the point guard spot for our program," said Ratzlaff. "As the year went on he got more and more comfortable which helped him be more consistent. He had some really big shooting nights and showed how much he likes to compete. The thing I like most about Lawson is the fact that he welcomes a challenge and he doesn't back down from anything. Congratulations to Lawson."

Chippeaux, Tabor's sixth man, came off the bench to average 6.1 points per-game to go along with 4.6 rebounds, ranking him sixth and third, respectively, for the Bluejays. He also led the Bluejays in blocks with 23, ranking him sixth in the conference, finished third on the team in steals, with 28, and shot 77 percent from the free throw line, good for sixth in the conference.

"Ryan also had a big year as a freshman," added Ratzlaff. "He was an effective player right away because he works hard and listens to his coaches. He wants to get better and does not want to settle for average.Ryan understands the game which made him a tough match-up on both ends of the floor. The thing I like about Ryan is that he plays with passion and with an edge that others don't always have right away and we are excited about his future. Congratulations to Ryan."
