MacKenzie Dick led the Lady Jays with 14 points

HILLSBORO, Kan. - The Tabor College Women's Basketball Team fell to the visiting Lady Spires of the University of Saint Mary, 47-44, on Thursday night.


Tabor, who had won the previous match-up in Leavenworth in early January, turned the ball over 23 times and failed to crash the boards, leading to 17 second chance points for Saint Mary.Both teams traded leads throughout the first half and Tabor held a 22-21 lead at halftime.


Coming out of the break the Lady Jays struggled to match for the intensity of the Spires as they pulled ahead by 16 points.


Despite their turnovers Tabor rallied back to within six points within the last minute of regulation. With forty-five seconds left in the game, sophomore MacKenzie Dick (Henderson, Neb.) nailed a three from the baseline to bring the Lady Jays within three.


The Lady Spires threw a long in-bounds pass that was picked off by freshman Molly Dick (Buhler, Kan.) but a Tabor turnover sealed Saint Mary's victory.


Tabor was led offensively by MacKenzie Dick with 14 points, while freshman Vivian Olvera (Plains, Kan.) and senior Stephanie Silvas (Dexter, N.M.) added nine and seven points respectively.


Tabor (7-10 KCAC, 10-16 Overall) will close out regular season play Saturday, February 20, at 5 p.m. when the Bluejays will travel to Wichita, Kan to take on Friends University. Tabor will begin KCAC Tournament play either Monday or Thursday night next week with times and schedules to be announced after the regular season finale.
