HILLSBORO,
Kan. - After an impressive two game sweep
over Central Christian on Wednesday the Tabor College Baseball Team dropped
both games of its double header against the University
of Sioux Falls Thursday afternoon in Hillsboro,
Kan.
In
game one Tabor left five runners on base before the University
of Sioux Falls held on
for the 6-2, victory.
After
a scoreless first two innings the Cougars scored three runs in the third inning
to take the early lead and control of the game. Tabor would answer with a run
of its own in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 3-1, but a two
run sixth inning would keep the Bluejays at bay to secure the victory.
Tabor
was led offensively by freshman Nathan Rausch (Wichita,
Kan.) who recorded his second
home run in as many days as he went 1-3 from the plate with an RBI and a run
scored. Junior Jake Mays (Colorado
Springs, Colo.)
recorded his first home run of the season as he went 1-3 with an RBI and a run
scored.
Freshman
Will Wood (Combine, Texas) got the start for the Bluejays and pitched
four innings allowing three runs on three hits while striking out one.
In
game two Tabor struggled to get its bats going falling 10-2, to the University
of Sioux Falls as the
Bluejays managed just three hits in the game.
Tabor
which trailed 3-2, heading into the top of the sixth allowed seven runs over the
next two innings as the Cougars earned the victory.
Seniors
Jared DeRusha (Willow, Okla.)
and Dustin Dick (Hutchinson, Kan.)
and junior Ryan Boucher (Wichita,
Kan.) each recorded a hit in the
game to pace the Bluejays offense.
Sophomore
Zach Cremers (Ponca City,
Okla.) got the start for the
Bluejays and pitched two innings allowing one earned run on five hits.
Tabor
(2-2) will continue its series against the University
of Sioux Falls with a
double-header Friday Feb. 19, with game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
