Hillsboro, Kan. - The Lady Jays lost a close battle on the road in Winfield, Kan. Thursday night to the Southwestern College Lady Moundbuilders, 62-54.


Both the Lady Jays and the Lady Moundbuilders got off to a fast start, battling point for pointthroughout the first half. The Moundbuilders were not ready for the defensive pressure and intensity the Lady Jays put on from the second the ball was tipped. This led to many defensive stops and set up the offensive end for success.The Lady Jays stopped the Moundbuilders offenseand went into the halftime break ahead by two, 26-24.


After the break the Lady Jays jumped right out and continued to battle for the lead. Once again the teams went back and forth until the Lady Moundbuilders went on a run and built a lead. Although the Lady Jays battled back they just could not close the game and fell to the Lady Moundbuilders in the end.


Tynan Honn led the Lady Jays offensively with 17 points, while sophomore Gina Hullet (Abilene, Kan.) and senior Stephanie Silvas (Dexter, N.M.) each chipped in with 10 points apiece.


Honn led all rebounders with eight rebounds while Hullet (Abilene, Kan) grabbed five.


Tabor (2-5 KCAC, 3-14 Overall) will travel to Leavenworth, Kan. to take on the University of Saint Mary's Saturday, Jan 16, at 5 p.m.
