Hillsboro,
Kan. -
The Lady Jays basketball team lost in a non-KCAC conference match up against
the visiting Lady Panthers of York College in overtime, 50-44, on Monday night.
York got off to a quick, 11-0, lead in
the first few minutes of play. Although the Lady Jays were playing a tight full
court defense, they struggled with stopping the open three point
shots. The Lady Panthers expandedtheir lead to 21-8, the largest
lead they would have for the night.
Tabor's defense quickly adjusted,
however, covering the outside shooters and making it harder for the Lady
Panthers to increase their lead. The Lady Jays fought back on the offensive end
as well, bringing the Panthers lead down to six points at 28-22 heading into
the break.
Coming out of the half the Lady Jays
struggled once again to find their rhythm while the Lady Panthers drained a
couple of easy shots. Finally the Lady Jays found their groove and were once
again right back in the game. A pass from senior Stephanie Silvas (Dexter,
N.M.) to sophomore Gina Hullet (Abilene, Kan.) set Hullet up to make the shot
to send the game into overtime, tied at 43-43.
In overtime the Lady Jays struggled on
the offensive end only able to score one point while the Lady Panthers picked
up seven to grab the lead and win the game, 50-44.
Hullet led the Lady Bluejays with 15
points and 12 rebounds.
Tabor (2-4 KCAC, 3-13 Overall) will
travel to Winfield, Kan. to take on Southwestern College Thursday, Jan 14, at 6
