Hillsboro, Kan. -
The Tabor College Men's Basketball team's comeback fell short Saturday night in
Hillsboro, Kan. as the Swedes from Bethany College were
able to hold the Bluejays off just long enough for the 72-66 victory.
Tabor also suffered a crucial blow as senior captain and
second leading scorer Kyle Kroeker (Hillsboro,
Kan.) suffered what most likely
will be a season ending wrist injury just four minutes into the game.
Tabor started the game out fast and quickly built an early
nine point lead at 15-6 just five minutes into the contest. Bethany would answer back and retake the lead
with a 15-0 run over the next four minutes to take the lead.
The Bluejays would battle back and tie the game at 31 apiece
with just over a minute to play but the Swedes would close the half with four
unanswered points to take a 35-31, lead into the break.
In the second half Tabor would battle back to tie the game
at 41 apiece only to see Bethany
use a 9-1 run to regain control of the game. The Bluejays would once again
battle back and this time take the lead at 52-51, with just eight minutes to
play.
The lead however would be short lived as Bethany regained the lead at 54-52, and where
able to hold the Bluejays off down the stretch to secure the victory.
Junior Damon Dechant (Kit Carson, Colo.)
led the Bluejays offensively with 19 points while senior Dan Hann (Phoenix, Ariz.)
added 13 points.
The Bluejays also got offensive contributions from sophomore
Cody Arnold with 11 points, while freshman Ryan Chippeaux (Wichita, Kan.)
chipped in with seven. Dechant, Hann, and Chippeaux also racked up six rebounds
apiece to lead Tabor's effort on the glass.
Tabor (3-3 KCAC, 6-9 Overall) will travel to take on Southwestern College
in Winfield, Kan. Thursday January 14, at 8 p.m.
