Hillsboro,
Kan. - The Tabor College Women's Basketball Team defeated the
Ottawa University Lady Braves 51-45, on Saturday, giving the Lady Jays
back-to-back conference wins heading into break.
Senior Stephanie Silvas (Dexter, N.M.) kicked off the game with a quick four points and jump started an impressive first half for the Lady Jays.
Tabor's defense showed up for a notable first half causing
nine turnovers for the Lady Braves. The Lady Jays post defense held the Braves
to only four points from within the paint by shutting down drives and not
allowing the Braves guards to pass inside. Sophomore Gina Hullet (Abilene,
Kan.) and freshman Tynan Honn (Hutchinson, Kan.) added to the defense by
pulling down a combined 22 defensive rebounds and only allowing four points off
of second chance shots.
Hullet's 12 points and Andrea Robinson's (Tulsa, Okla.) nine points led the Lady Jays into a 39-19 halftime lead.
Coming out of halftime Robinson hit a quick three to give the Lady Jays a 23 point lead. That was the last time the Lady Jays scored for the next eight minutes of the second half until Robinson hit another basket for two.
Although the Lady Jays struggled both offensively and defensively throughout the second half and allowed the Braves to come within five points, they persevered and came out on top with a 51-45 win.
Robinson lead Tabor offensively with 14 points.
Tabor (2-2 KCAC, 3-8 Overall) will play at home for the Tabor Classic Friday Jan. 1 at 5 p.m.
