Cortney Janzen had 16 kills in the two matches for the Bluejyas

Hillsboro, Kan. - The Tabor College Volleyball Team earned a split this past Saturday in Salina, Kan. at the Kansas Wesleyan triangular as the Bluejays defeated Kansas Wesleyan University before falling to Mid-America Nazarene.


In the first game of the afternoon Tabor continued to flex their muscle in conference play as the Bluejays used a dominating performance to defeat Kansas Wesleyan University in three games (25-13, 25-19, 25-16 to remain on-top the KCAC standings.


Tabor used a well balanced offensive performance to win the three games by a combined 27 points. Senior Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita, Kan.) led the Bluejays offensive attack with 10 kills while sophomore Cortney Janzen (Henderson, Neb.) racked up nine kills.


Senior Carly Kroeker (Henderson, Neb.) and sophomore Tina Frick (Durham, Kan.) each chipped in offensively with six kills apiece while sophomore Mandi Phillips (Halstead, Kan.) dished out 37 assists.


Defensively five Bluejays combined to tally nine blocks up front, while senior Audra Schenk (Hillsboro, Kan.) added a team high eight digs while Cohlmia chipped in with six digs.


In game two of the afternoon the Bluejays fell to Heart of America Athletic Conference opponent Mid-America Nazarene University in three games (19-25, 23-25, 19-25).


Tabor was without regular starters Cohlmia and sophomore Gina Hullet (Abilene, Kan.) as a number of Bluejays saw playing time and gained valuable experience in the match.


Frick led the way offensively with eight kills while Janzen added seven kills for the match. The Bluejays also got offensive contributions from Kroeker, junior Jordan Crosson (Minneapolis, Kan.) sophomore Jessica Dixon (Hutchinson, Kan.) and freshman Emily Post (Wray, Colo.) as they each added four or more kills in the match.


Defensively the Bluejays were led by Schenk and Phillips who each tallied nine digs in the match, while freshman Paige Tabor (Mansfield, Texas) racked up six digs in the match.


Tabor (12-1 KCAC, 15-8 Overall) will return home to host Friends University, Monday Oct. 26th. The junior varsity match will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity match at 7 p.m.
