Hillsboro, Kan - After finishing the first found of conference play with an impressive, 8-1, record the Tabor College Volleyball Team opened round two of KCAC play Wednesday night, defeating visiting Southwestern College in four games (32-30, 23-25, 25-19, 25-17) to remain on top the conference standings.


Both teams were determined to get off to a good start and game one turned into a marathon tie-breaker. The Bluejays finally edged the Moundbuilders, 32-30, to take the all important and early, 1-0, lead.


Southwestern refused to go quietly, however, and they answered back in game two with a 25-23 victory to even the score at one game apiece. As they have done all year, the Bluejays answered the challenge in dominating fashion by taking games three and four by a total of 14 points to secure the four game victory.


Reigning KCAC Volleyball Player of the Week sophomore Tina Frick (Durham, Kan.) led the Bluejays charge as she racked-up a team high 19 kills, while senior Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita, Kan.) added 12.


Tabor also got help offensively from sophomore Gina Hullet (Abilene, Kan.) who chipped in with eight kills, while five time and reigning KCAC Setter of the Week Mandi Phillips (Halstead, Kan.) dished out 42 assists.


Defensively, the Bluejays controlled the net as they combined for 25 total blocks on the night, led by Frick with seven, while senior Carly Kroeker (Henderson, Neb.) and Hullet added six total blocks apiece.


Senior Andrea Batista (Hagerman, N.E.) led the Bluejays back row with 15 digs, while Cohlmia added 12.


Tabor (9-1 KCAC, 12-7 Overall) will travel to take on Sterling College in Sterling, Kan. Friday Oct. 16th, at 7 p.m.
