Hillsboro, Kan. - For the second
consecutive week sophomores Tina Frick and Mandi Phillips have been named KCAC
Players of the Week for their performances in helping lead the Bluejays to a
1-1 record over this past week including a huge win over Sooner Conference
power Southern Nazarene.
"We are thrilled to
have these two women receive honors," said Head Coach Amy Ratzlaff. "Their
success is a big indicator that a lot of great things are happening on the
team. I am so excited to see an increase in performance each week
from Tina and Mandi."
Frick
(Durham, Kan.) was named KCAC Hitter of the Week as well as KCAC Volleyball
Player of the Week as she racked-up 35 kills, including 19 against Southern
Nazarene with an average of 4.38 per-game over the two game stretch. Her 10
total blocks (1.25 per-game) and an attack percentage of .545 also played a
major roll in the Bluejays success during the week.
"Tina had an
unbelievable week and was simply unstoppable against Southern Nazarene, helping
lead us to that important victory," said Ratzlaff. "Her 4.38 kills
per-game is impressive, but what I am excited about is her overall .545 hitting
percentage for the week. To have a hitter with only five errors for the week
is significant."
For an
unprecedented fifth consecutive week this season Phillips (Halstead, Kan.) was
named KCAC Setter of the Week recording 102 assists, including 54 against
Southern Nazarene with an average of 12.75 assists per-game over the two game
stretch. Her three total blocks and 19 digs also provided the Bluejays a lift.
"The
12.75 assists stat for Mandi is certainly worthy
of the honor," Ratzlaff said. "She continues to hold on to the Setter
of the Week title by producing great performances."
