After eight straight wins to open KCAC play the Tabor College Volleyball Team
suffered its first conference loss of the season as the Bluejays fell to Ottawa
University in four games (19-25, 25-23, 22-25, 24-26) Tuesday night in Ottawa,
Kan.
Ottawa jumped on the Bluejays early taking game one of the
match by six points the largest margin of victory in any of the four games. The next three games were decided by a total
of seven points as Tabor rallied to take game two before falling in games three
and four.
"We did not play our
game at Ottawa," said Head Coach Amy Ratzlaff. "We had error after error
after error and just couldn't get the job done."
Tabor did have three players register double-digit kills in
the match led by reigning KCAC Hitter of the Week sophomore Tina Frick (Durham,
Kan.) with 16, while senior Carly Kroeker (Henderson, Neb.) and sophomore Gina
Hullet (Abilene, Kan.) each racked up 10 apiece.
KCAC Setter of the Week Sophomore Mandi Phillips (Halstead,
Kan.) dished out 48 assists in the match while senior Ashley Cohlmia (Wichita,
Kan.) chipped in with seven kills.
Defensively Tabor did a better jump up at the net as the
Bluejays accumulated 18 assisted blocks in the match led by Frick and Hullet
who had six apiece. Cohlmia led the
Bluejays with 12 digs while Phillips and senior Andrea Batista (Hagerman, N.M.)
added eight digs apiece.
Tabor (8-1 KCAC, 10-7 Overall) will look to bounce back and exact
an early season loss as they return home to host Southern Nazarene University
Friday Oct. 9th, at 5:30 p.m.
