Hillsboro, Kan. - The Tabor College football lost to the Peru State Bobcats 19-7
Saturday Afternoon in Hillsboro, Kan.
Despite the loss, several Bluejay
players turned in exceptional performances. Sophomore quarterback Marc Amos
(Lakewood, Col.) threw for 245 yards and one touchdown. Catching eight of those
passes was freshman wide receiver Daniel Jost (Hillsboro, Kan.), who gained 143
yards receiving and one touchdown. Jost currently leads the team in receiving
with 323 yards and two scores, as well as an impressive 20.2 yard average.
While the passing game thrived,
the running game again struggled to get going, netting only 41 yards. The
defense, meanwhile, had trouble stopping the opposing team's running game,
which gained 188 yards and two scores on the ground.
Although they allowed two
touchdowns (one Peru State touchdown came from an interception just before
half), the defense played well, creating several opportunities.
Sophomore David Coats (Van Nuys,
Cal.) had an interception as well as a fumble recovery for 19 yards. Junior
Teal Stutzman (Lititz, Pen.) also recorded his 48th tackle of the season.
In addition, a blocked extra
point and a stop on a two-point conversion in the first two quarters kept the
team in the game, but strong defense by the Bobcats prevented the Bluejays from
scoring till the fourth quarter.
"The defense played four quarters
and played very inspired," said Tabor Head Football Coach Mike Gottsch.
The
Bluejays will be looking for their first win of the season at Homecoming this
Saturday against Ottawa University at Joel H. Wiens Stadium. Kick-off is at 2
p.m."
