Hillsboro, Kan. -
After a tough non-conference schedule the Tabor College Men's Soccer Team
opened KCAC play with a victory Saturday afternoon in Leavenworth, Kan. as the
Bluejays defeated the University of St. Mary by the score of 2-1.
"It was great to start the conference season with a victory on the road," said Head Coach Grant Brubacher. "We made the match interesting by not finishing well early on, but stuck with our game plan and executed well enough to get the victory. We had a great effort from our defense; we just need to get the offensive going strong. "
After a scoreless 30 minutes Tabor got on the board first as senior Andy Adrian (Buhler, Kan.) found the back of the net off a pass from junior Marcos Bandeira (Porto Alegre, Brazil) to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead that they would take into the break.
Tabor would make the score 2-0 just nine minutes into the second half as sophomore Robert Masson (Dalgety Bay, Scotland) scored off a pass from freshman David Simmet (Mainz, Germany) for his team high sixth goal of the season.
The University of St. Mary would make the game
interesting as the Spires scored midway through the second half to cut the lead
to 2-1, but that's as close as they would get as Tabor held on for the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Aaron Schmucker (Inman, Kan.) recorded four saves in the match in route to his fourth victory of the season.
Tabor (1-0 KCAC, 4-4-1 Overall) will host Oklahoma Christian University Monday Oct. 5th at 3 p.m.
