Hillsboro, Kan. -
The Tabor College Women's Cross Country Team finished 6th out of 10
teams this past weekend at the Tabor College Invitational, held at Cottonwood
Point at the Marion Reservoir.
"The
meet went pretty well," said Head Coach Dan Swaney. "The ground overall
was probably a little softer do to the rain and therefore slower than usual,
but it was in good shape.
"Despite
the slower surface, there were still some fast times recorded. We had what I
believe was the second largest field ever, behind last years, with a few new
schools. Several coaches told me their athletes liked the course and they were glad
they had come."
The
Lady Jays were led by senior Christina Addison (Valley Center, Kan.) who
finished in 24th place at 20:12, while fellow senior Jera Teselle
(Downs, Kan.) finished in 37th place at 20:56.
"Everyone
ran faster today than they did at the Friends Invite," added Swaney "Christina improved
by 47 seconds even though her back tightened up significantly, and was only 3
seconds off what she ran here last year. Jera returned to form, improving by 2
minutes, while freshman Erin Flaming (Denver, Colo.) destroyed her
personal record at Friends by taking off another 57 seconds.
"We
have continued to have quality workouts lately and I think that showed in the
times today. We still have six weeks to the conference meet and I'm excited to
see what everyone can do as they continue to get stronger and healthier."
The Lady Jays will travel to
Emporia, Kan. Friday Oct. 2 to compete in the Jock Nitch Invitational at Emporia
State University at 5:00 p.m.
