Hillsboro, Kan. - The Tabor College Men's Cross Country Team finished 12th out of 13 teams this past weekend at the Tabor College Invitational, held at Cottonwood Point at the Marion Reservoir.
"The meet went pretty well," said Head Coach Dan Swaney. "The rain didn't seem to affect the course too bad with just a few puddles on the men's outer loop. The ground overall was probably a little softer and therefore slower than usual, but it was in good shape.
"Despite the slower surface,
there were still some fast times recorded. We had what I believe was the second
largest field ever, behind last years, with a few new schools. Several
coaches told me their athletes liked the course and they were glad they
had come."
Freshman Jacob Heil (Wichita, Kan.) led the way for the Bluejays as he set a personal record finishing in 50th place at 28:30 while senior Dan Sigley (Cheney, Wash.) finished in 67th place at 29:14.
"Everyone
ran faster today than they did at the Friends Invite accept sophomore Matt
Spurgeon (Wichita, Kan.), who has been battling knee pain and freshman Tim
Roesch (Quinter, Kan.), who didn't run at Friends because of some calf pain,"
added Swaney.
"We have continued to have quality workouts lately and I think that showed in the times today. We still have six weeks to the conference meet and I'm excited to see what everyone can do as they continue to get stronger and healthier."
The Bluejays will travel to Emporia, Kan. Friday Oct. 2 to
compete in the Jock Nitch Invitational at Emporia State University at 5:30 p.m.
