Hillsboro, Kan. -
The Tabor College Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams will host the Tabor
Invitational this Saturday at the team's home course, located at Cottonwood
Point at the Marion Reservoir.
The women's race is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the
men's race at approximately 10:40 a.m.
This will be the third meet of the season for both teams as
the Bluejays competed at the Maple Leaf Invitational hosted by Baker University
in Baldwin City, Kan., and the Friends University Invitational at Lake Afton in
Wichita, Kan.
"The Maple Leaf Invitational gave us a chance to see where
we are at, at the beginning of the season," said Head Cross Country Coach Dan
Swaney. "Both races were run entirely on wet grass, which never really makes
for particularly fast times, but I was excited to see what everyone could do.
"I thought that we might have some pack running on both the
men's and women's teams and it ended up being a little more true than I had
anticipated, but that usually only helps everyone to run faster because they
have the support of their teammates. It also really helps us score better as a
team.
During the Friends Invitational I didn't expect anyone to
run a very quality time because the conditions on several parts of the course
were so bad due to the rain earlier in the week," added Swaney. "The men had
the worst of it since they had to cover the same section of extremely muddy
trail in both the second and fourth miles.
"Although I thought the Baker meet was a decent start to the
season, this race was much better. It wasn't an easy course to deal with,
mentally or physically, but the fact that they came reasonably close to matching
their times at the Maple Leaf Invitational was good."
