Hillsboro, Kan. -With
a gritty defensive effort, the Tabor College Men's Soccer Team held powerhouse
Oklahoma Baptist University (Shawnee, Okla.) scoreless through two overtimes to
earn a 0-0 tie Friday afternoon in the Bluejays home opener at the new Joel H.
Wiens Stadium.
"We played well and were rewarded with the draw,"
said Head Men's Soccer Coach Grant Brubacher. "It wasan even match with
chances for both teams. I was especially proud of our defensive effort after
struggling to keep the ball out of our net last week."
Seven yellow penalty cards
were issued, including five called against the visiting Bison, which plays in
the Oklahoma Sooner Conference, in a match that became more intense and
physical as time wore on.
Both teams had plenty of opportunities to break the deadlock,
as the Bison registered 12 shots on goal while the Bluejays tallied 10 shots on
goal.
Senior goaltender Aaron Schmucker (Inman, Kan.) was on top
of his game, as he tallied 12 saves in the match to record his second shutout
of the season.
