Hillsboro, Kan. - Monterey Peninsula College transfer Luke Matthews (Boise, Idaho) has signed a letter of intent to play baseball next season for the Bluejays.

Matthews, a 6-2, 210-pound first baseman, will bring immediate experience both at the plate and in the field next season for the Bluejays.

While at Monterey Peninsula College, Matthews was the recipient of the Lobo award and earned All-Nor Cal honors. He also earned second team all-conference honors in 2008, and first team all-conference honors in 2009 for the Lobos.

Matthews has also excelled in the classroom as he was named Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2008-09.

"Luke is going to have a huge impact on our program next year both on and off the field," said Head Baseball Coach Mark Standiford. "He brings instant leadership skills from his time in the military service, and from his strong Christian faith. Couple that with his ability to play the game at a very high level, you can see why we are excited to have Luke here at Tabor, and we expect great things from him over the next two years.

Luke is the son of Mark and Corinne Matthews.
