Junior Mike Rousell (New Orleans, La) Placed 4th in the Nation at the NAIA National Track and Field Championships

Hillsboro, Kan. - Five school records and one All-American performance highlighted the final meet of the season for 10 Tabor track and field athletes at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships last week in St. Louis, Mo.


Junior Mike Rousell (New Orleans, La.) earned All-American honors as he claimed 4th place in the triple jump breaking his own school record in the process with a jump of 48' 4¾".


Senior Breanna Wray (Walsh, Colo.) qualified for the finals in the hammer and broke her own school record by over three feet (162' 4") as she finished 9th in the nation. Junior Christina Addison (Valley Center, Kan.) and sophomore Zach Gould (Sioux City, Iowa) became the first Tabor athletes to compete in the marathon at nationals.Christina placed 12th out of 34 athletes from around the country while Zach placed 27th out of 44 competitors who competed in the 26.2 mile race.



The Tabor women's 4 x 100 meter relay team broke their own school record in the first round of competition with a time of 48.39 which allowed them to advance to the semi-finals on Friday. Members of the team included freshman Kayla Gershon (Littleton, Colo.), junior Jessica Burden, (Little Elm, Texas) junior Kelli Kopper (Cimarron, Kan.), junior Tasia Johnson (Dallas, Texas) and freshman alternate Becca Liebe (Goddard, Kan.).


Other individuals that competed at nationals were Kopper in the 400 meters, sophomore Justin Ball (Welda, Kan.) in the 800 meters, Burden in the 100 meter hurdles, and Johnson who competed in the long jump.


"It's been a long, tough year without our own facility to practice on," said Head Men's and Women's Track and Field Coach Dave Kroeker. "This was just a great way to end the season, with big performances at the national meet. The kids all really performed well and we just had a great time together."


Mike Rousell really summed it up by saying, "All the glory goes to God. He makes all things possible."
