Hillsboro, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference honored eleven Bluejay track and field athletes for their efforts this season, as they were named to the All-KCAC Teams.
Senior Silas Hibbs (Hays, Kan.) junior Mike Rousell (New Orleans, Kan.) and sophomore Justin Ball (Welda, Kan.) took home top honors, as they were named to the KCAC Men's Track and Field All-Conference Team.
Hibbs earned All-Conference honors as he placed first in the poll vault at the KCAC conference meet.
"Silas just has a way of making things happen on meet day," said Head Track and Field Coach Dave Kroeker."We struggled to get in a pit all season and yet in his last two meets he really competed well. After setting the school record last year, he successfully defended his conference title this year."
Rousell earned All-Conference honors as he placed first in the triple jump at the KCAC conference meet.
"Mike saved his best for his last jump and not only set a new Tabor record but earned the gold in the triple jump at the same time," said Kroeker."Mike is a gifted athlete who has just a knack for the dramatic and the KCAC triple jump final was no exception."
Ball earned All-Conference honors as he placed first in the 800 meters at the KCAC conference meet.
"Justin has worked so hard this year and it was so gratifying to see him run his best race of the year at the KCAC meet," said Kroeker."He ran a very smart, patient race and just had more strength in the last 75 meters."
Eight other Bluejays track and Field athlete's earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors for their performances at the KCAC conference meet, led by senior Brad Kiser (Delphos, Kan.), juniors Drew Crosson (Minneapolis, Kan.), Tristan Burrow (Great Bend, Kan.), and Brent Nelsen (Peyton, Colo.), sophomores Zach Gould (Sioux City, Iowa), and Richard Snyder (Warren, Ore.), and freshmen Matt Spurgeon (Wichita, Kan.), and Jordan Stahl (Yale, S.D.).
Six weeks ago Tristan threw 89' in the hammer," said Kroeker."Saturday he threw 135'. That's getting better fast! I know he's looking forward to next spring already."
"Drew had a bad hamstring all season that kept him from practicing for much of the past two months," said Kroeker. "He really gutted it out to finish his college career in the top six in the KCAC."
"Brad ended his college track career on a high note placing in the triple jump for the first time in his career," said Kroeker."
"Zach broke the school record every time he ran the 10k this season," said Kroeker."I think his future is bright."
"After being away from track for two years, Richard really started to round back into form at the end of season and I was pleased that he was able to finish in the top six in a strong field of competitors," said Kroeker.
"Matt's future at Tabor is bright and after contributing to a strong 4 x 800 meter relay team this year he should really improve in the next three years," said Kroeker."He is a hard worker and that will serve him well."
"Jordan just loves to compete and has worked hard so when the opportunity presented itself to score in the top six at the KCAC championships he took full advantage of it," said Kroeker."He will do nothing but improve over the next several years as he continues to work hard."
"Brent has worked so hard this year and was a leader in practice every day," said Kroeker."He was really a great example for the underclassmen."
