Hillsboro, Kan. - The Tabor College Women's Basketball team fell just short in their bid to get its first win of the season against visiting Oklahoma Wesleyan University, Monday night falling 71-75

"We competed really hard, showing a great deal of perseverance, but we weren't able to keep them from the basket", said Head Coach Shawn Winter.

The Lady Jays pulled out to a 36-33 halftime lead, but a second-half Oklahoma Wesleyan run left Tabor trailing by 12 with just over 8 minutes to play. The deficit proved too much for the Lady Jays to overcome.

The Lady Jays were led by senior guard Kirsten Watson (Quanah, Texas.), who scored 16 points, adding five assists and three rebounds.

Senior forward Brittany Roth (Milford, NE) also chipped in 16 points, and Junior Eboni Sweat (Denver, Colo.) added 14.

One of the factors contributing to the Lady Jays early woes is their lack of depth in the post position. They have five post players on the varsity roster, but Gina Hullet (6-0, FR) and Heather Witham (6-3, SR) are currently finishing their season with the Tabor Volleyball team.

"Getting more depth in the post will certainly give us a boost," said Winter. "Players get tired, and when you are short-staffed in the post, you either have to play your posts tired or settle with a smaller lineup."

The lady jays (0-3) will pick up again on Saturday, Nov. 15 at 5:30 pm in an exhibition match up against Fort Hays State University.
