KCAC Tournament Bracket
Hillsboro, Kan. – For the first time in nearly two decades the Tabor College baseball team has earned a share of the KCAC regular season title. The Bluejays who finished in a tie for first place in the conference standings with Sterling College, earned its first KCAC title in seventeen years dating back to the 1995-96 season.
This past season has been a memorable one for the Bluejays, who along with earning a conference title, have also been selected to host an opening round of the NAIA baseball tournament for the first time in school history, which will be played at Hobart-Detter field in Hutchinson, Kan. May 10-14.
Tabor finished the regular season with a record of 21-7 in conference play and 39-11 overall while climbing as high as 17th in the NAIA top 25 polls. The Bluejays also boasted one of the best offenses in the nation ranking 2nd in the country in batting average at .361 and slugging percentage at .544. Tabor finished this past season ranked in the top 15 nationally in 16 offensive categories.
The Bluejays also turned in some of the top individual performances in the nation as well. Junior Art Corona finished the year ranked first in the nation in runs scored per game at 1.340, while senior Adam McCormick led the nation in batting average at .490, and junior outfielder Matt Cardona finished first in the nation in fielding percentage at 1.000. Tabor spent almost the entire season alone atop the KCAC standings, before dropping three of four to Sterling College in the final series of the year to finish in a tie in the KCAC standings. After tie breakers the Bluejays will be the No. 2 seed in next week's KCAC conference baseball tournament held at Hobart-Detter field in Hutchinson, Kan. The tournament is set to begin Tuesday, May 1 and run through Friday, May 4, with the winner of the tournament receiving an automatic bid to the NAIA national baseball tournament. The Bluejays, thanks to an impressive season, have already booked their ticket to the national tournament after being one of the nine schools to receive a bid to host a regional tournament.
