Leavenworth, Kan. – The Tabor College women's basketball team struggled to keep up on the scoreboard in the second half as the Lady Jays fell to the Spires of the University of St. Mary by the score of 61-48 Wednesday night in Leavenworth, Kan.

A back-and-fourth affair broke out in the first half as both teams traded leads before the Spires took a slim two-point advantage into the halftime break 32-30.

In the second half the Lady Jays offense, which produced 30 first-half points, could only manage 18. The Spires would capitalize on Tabor's lack of offense, outscoring the Lady Jays by 11 in the half, to earn the victory.

Junior Katlyn Mary led the Lady Jays offensive attack with 14 points on 5-12 shooting from the field, while fellow junior Tynan Honn added 11 points on 4-6 shooting from the field. Sophomore Hannah Paust led the effort on the glass with a game-high seven rebounds as Tabor lost the battle on the glass by one at 31-30.

Tabor finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field and 26 percent from behind the arc while dishing out eight assists to 20 turnovers for the game. Paust, along with freshman Kendra Flaming, led the way with three assists each.

Tabor (1-7 KCAC, 3-16 Overall) will return home to host Southwestern College Saturday Jan. 21. The junior varsity game is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the varsity game to follow at 5 p.m.
