McPherson, Kan. – Sophomore Brielle Lund was honored by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference as she was named KCAC runner of the week after helping lead the Tabor College women's cross country team to a seventh place finish at McPherson Invitational.
Lund, (Green, Kan.) who finished third out of 85 runners at the Lakeside Shootout hosted by McPherson College, was the first NAIA runner to cross the finish line with a time of 19:29.5.
"We ran as well as I could have hoped for," said Head Cross Country Coach Dan Swaney. "She just kept picking women off one by one until she had worked her way up to third place falling just .4 seconds out of second place. Her time was 26 seconds off what she ran at Emporia a couple weeks ago, but my guess is that this was really a better race for her. If we can continue to have good conditions these next few weeks I think Brielle will get under 19 minutes.
Other finishers for the Lady Jays included freshman Hannah Holmes in 28th place with a time of 21:09.8, freshman Katerina Plaza in 50th place with a time of 22:32.8, freshman Kaitlyn Lowry in 54th place with a time of 22:50.6, freshman Allison Palmgren in 57th place with a time of 23:09.7, and sophomore Jordan Scheer in 79th place with a time of 26:10.8
"The second-best race on the team was by Katerina Plaza," said Swaney. "She ran exactly the same time as she did in the last meet so I think this was in fact a much better race for her. With the exception of Kat, all of our women ran times that were a bit slower than I had hoped we would get, but considering the condition of the course I think they all ran pretty well and I was pleased with their performances."
Tabor will travel to Winfield, Kan. to compete in the Mid-States Classic Saturday Oct. 22, hosted by Southwestern College. Meet time is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. from the Veterans Home.
