Men's Soccer - Mon, Sep. 19, 2011

Kansas City, Mo. –Three days after suffering its first shutout of the season the Tabor College men's soccer team responded in a big way Friday afternoon in Kansas City, Mo. The Bluejays found the back of the net three times to defeat Heart of America Athletic Conference foe Avila University by the score of 3-1.

Freshman Marian Saar broke a scoreless tie at the 37-minute mark of the first half with his third goal of the season to give Tabor a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

Tabor would continue to apply its offensive pressure in the second half as senior Robert Masson put away his second goal of the year to extend the Bluejays lead to 2-0. Despite the two goal advantage the Tabor offense wasn't finished lighting up the score board.  The Bluejays tallied their third goal of the match just a minute later. Saar would score his second goal of the match off of a pass from Masson to give Tabor its largest lead of the season at 3-0.

Avila would stop the Bluejays' shutout attempt with a goal at the 67-minute mark but that's as close as the Eagles would get all night.

Senior Ben Clark and sophomore Dalton Burkhard combined to stop four shots on the afternoon as both teams' tallied five shots on goal in the match.

Tabor (4-2 Overall) will travel to take on Manhattan Christian College, Wednesday Sept. 21, at 7 p.m. in Manhattan, Kan.
